President Obiang Oversees the Inauguration of New AU Headquarters

During his final days as African Union Chairman, Equatorial Guinea President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo oversaw the inauguration of the new headquarters of the African Union, a conference and office complex located in Addis Ababa, alongside Commission Chairman Jean Ping. The inauguration took place on Saturday, January 28, 2012, featuring the heads of states and governments from across the region.

The building complex, a donation from the Chinese government, is the tallest building in Addis Ababa, reaching 100 metres high. It includes a 27-story tower for the organisation’s offices and according to Obiang, is “a reflection of the new Africa, and the future we want for Africa.”
