President Obiang Funds Program to Combat Poverty and Malnutrition
Vicente Ehate
Tomi, the Prime Minister in Charge of Administrative Coordination of Equatorial
Guinea, inaugurated the
National Program for Food Security (PNSA) in Bioko on July 17, 2012.
The seminar,
which was funded by President Obiang
Nguema Mbasogo, was designed to help combat poverty and malnutrition within the
country. “We are still importing food from abroad,” said Ehate Tomi, “and in
order to reduce such imports and improve our agriculture industry, we need to
work more closely with the FAO, the African
Union and the World
Bank.”
The food
security program is reflective of the government’s efforts to improve the
country’s public health sector, which was included in Horizon 2020, an initiative to reduce poverty and
promote development.
